Availability of Draft Committee 2004 Energy Report Update
The Draft Committee Report provides an update to the 2003 Energy Report focusing on additional analysis and recommendations on three critical issues: reliability concerns associated with aging power plants, transmission planning, and accelerating renewable energy development. The Draft Committee Report is available from the Energy Commission's website at:
www.energy.ca.gov/2004_policy_update/documents/
Background
The Draft Committee Report is the based on the record developed during the update proceeding, which includes three draft staff white papers and extensive public and stakeholder comment. The report focuses on recommendations and includes a short summary of the key technical information underlying those recommendations. The three draft staff papers are:
- Resource, Reliability and Environmental Concerns of Aging Power Plant Operations and Retirements
- Upgrading California's Electric Transmission System: Issues and Actions for 2004 and Beyond
- Accelerated Renewable Energy Development
These draft documents, released in late July and early August 2004, were followed by Committee workshops in late August to ensure that the staff had captured public input and characterized information accurately. The three staff white papers can be found at www.energy.ca.gov/2004_policy_update/documents/.
The hearings scheduled for September and October will provide a forum for public comment on the Committee's recommendations before the Revised Draft Committee Report is considered for adoption by the full Energy Commission in November 2004.
