Efficient Vehicle Incentive Program
Funding Programs:

Efficient Vehicle Incentive Program,
California Energy Commission

With funding of $5 million from Governor Gray Davis' 2000-2001 Budget, the Energy Commission began a new Efficient Vehicle Incentive Program. This market transformation initiative was designed to effect consumer purchase decisions to help reduce our dependency on petroleum and increase the use of environmentally friendly vehicles. This program provided incentives for vehicles that offers public benefits such as improving transportation energy efficiency, reducing petroleum reliance, increasing energy diversity, and mitigating adverse environmental impacts from transportation fuels.

Eligible vehicles included natural gas and other alternatively fueled vehicles; super-efficient gasoline vehicles; and hybrid electric vehicles.

This market-based program was structured so that the Energy Commission can gauge customer response and allow modifications to improve market response as necessary.

The program ended in 2002 and has not been extended because of the state budget limitations.
