2012 Rulemaking on
Appliance Efficiency Regulations
Commissioner: Andrew McAllister
The Energy Commission conducted a public workshop in August 2011 to discuss and seek comments from interested parties regarding the scope of future proceedings to amend the Appliance Efficiency Regulations.
The 2011 scoping workshop was held to obtain public feedback regarding possible new appliance efficiency standards under Title 20. Potential top priorities under a new 2012 Order Instituting Rulemaking (OIR) are to meet the appliance efficiency mandates established in Assembly Bill 1109 (Huffman, Chapter 534, Statutes of 2007), Assembly Bill 32 (Núñez, Chapter 488, Statutes of 2006), and to support the goal of achieving zero net energy (ZNE) building standards by 2020 for residential buildings and 2030 for commercial buildings.
The Commission is seeking public input regarding possible new or amended appliance efficiency standards that offer significant energy savings which could be developed subsequent rulemakings under the new OIR. This OIR is proposed to cover a three-year period: 2012-2014.
