Outage response and communication is an important topic for every staff member at a utility. When power is interrupted, the first question is when the power will be restored. Under any circumstances, an outage is at best extremely inconvenient and at worst can have safety and economic consequences. Thus, outage communications whether planned or unplanned is at the forefront of many of the challenges of utility crisis and emergency communication.
Consequently, utilities are in constant need of upgrading their communication performance. This includes leveraging all technologies to manage customers' and stakeholders' expectations. Utilities can make outage experiences better by taking an innovative and holistic approach in their communications, such as preparing customers for outages. At the same time, utilities must provide their customers with consistent, valued information in a timely manner which is often easier said than done.
This conference will feature case studies from many of the top performing North American utilities (as ranked by J.D. Powers) and industry professionals, showcasing innovative communication strategies they are implementing. It will also examine certain technologies being leveraged to provide customers with critical and timely outage information. Through research and best practices that are shared throughout the conference, attendees will take away great ideas for developing, refining and administering their own outage communications programs.
