Efficiency and Renewables Division
The division lets all Californians know that wise energy use is a great investment both for the economy and the environment. The division makes the state's businesses, homes and appliances more energy efficient by developing and implementing the nation's most stringent building and appliance standards. The division helps streamline energy use in farms, factories, water systems and processing plants. This division supports the expansion of utility scale power generated by renewable resources, and designed and oversees an aggressive program to make new homes both energy efficient and powered by solar PV.

Electricity Supply Analysis Division
The Energy Commission's newly formed division assesses California's electricity and natural gas systems. Its goal is to give policy makers accurate information in making decisions that result in ample and affordable energy supplies.

Energy Facilities Siting Division
The division maintains a team of experts in 20 environment and engineering disciplines to ensure that needed energy facilities are friendly to the environment and are authorized in a safe and timely manner. The division's technical staff prepares all environmental documentation required by the California Environmental Quality Act and performs balanced, totally independent evaluation of complex and controversial projects.

Energy Research and Development Division
The division supports electricity demand side management and the research, development and demonstration of new technologies to ensure an ample and affordable supply of electricity. The division provides grants and contracts to institutions and individuals involved in research and development of energy technologies and related scientific work.

Fuels and Transportation Division
The Fuels and Transportation Division deals with about half of all the energy used in California! It is focused on transportation energy, both the petroleum we now depend on, and alternatives to conventional fuels that will be our fuels in the future. The Division houses the Energy Commission's Climate Change Program, Land Use Planning Program, Energy Technology Export Program, and Bioenergy Program. In addition, the Division provides timely information on the Energy Commission's website for consumers on saving fuel or buying an efficient vehicle. The Division is organized into three offices: Fossil Fuels, Emerging Fuels and Technologies, and Special Projects.
