Working at the Energy Commission
Employment Benefits
The California Energy Commission offers college and university students jobs and internships to give them insight on energy and environmental issues and enrich their view of state government.
Students work side by side with Energy Commission staff in a variety of areas to arm them with valuable job skills.
Rewarding paid positions are coordinated with the CSUS Foundation at the California State University, Sacramento via University Enterprises Inc., and are open to students attending accredited colleges and universities including UC's and Community Colleges. The Energy Commission also works with the UC Davis Internship and Career Center to employ students in that campus as student assistants at the Commission. Unpaid internships may also be available with our agency.

I love my job a the Commission because it allows for flexibility for my school schedule, a relief for a full time student like me. Besides my co-workers and supervisors are supportive of my role as a student first and intern second, allowing me to focus more on my education while gaining experience and skills I need in the future for a career in the media and communications industry. (Erinn, student assistant).
Working at the Commission gives me a number of opportunities to work on different projects. My assignments range from developing graphics for reports to brochures to promotional bookmarks. The diversity in projects is providing me with a wide range of experience for the future. (Michael, student assistant).
I started working here as a student because I wanted hands on experience in energy economics. I did everything from xeroxing, developing PowerPoint presentations, creating Excel spreadsheets to performing research in strategic energy planning. I was the logistics and organizational leader in the Exploratory Modeling team. The professional experience I obtained as a student assistant really paid off because I passed the Energy Analyst exam and I was offered a permanent position. I have met and have learned from many people who are experts in a diverse fields in energy and found a career here. (Nick, Energy Analyst).
