Sacramento Green Building Retraining Initiative
Type of organization: A joint powers agency of the City and County of Sacramento.
Type of training: Green construction retraining for unemployed or underemployed workers with some construction experience.
Area served: Sacramento Metropolitan region, which includes El Dorado, Placer, Yolo, and Sacramento Counties.
Location of training: Los Rios Community College District, American River College.
Estimated trainees: 200
Instruction details: Upgrade the skills of workers with previous construction experience in several green career clusters including:
- Solar power;
- Green construction;
- Energy efficiency;
- Green plumbing;
- Water efficiency;
- Sustainability.
Result of classes: The skills training will result in Industry-Identified Certificates including Certified Green Building Professional, Certified Photovoltaic Installer, Accredited Green Plumber, Certified Energy Auditor, HERS II raters and HERS II analyst.
More about the organization: The Sacramento Employment and Training Agency is creating the Sacramento Green Building Retraining Initiative (SGBR).The Green Capital Alliance will act as the Green Employer Council for the initiative and provide oversight and ensure that programs reflect relevant training for real world jobs. Other partners include the Los Rios Community College District, American River College, the Sacramento Sierra Building and Construction Trades Council, Beutler Corporation, Sacramento Municipal Utilities District, Community Resource Project, and Green Plumbers USA.
