Green Building and Clean Energy Pre-Apprenticeship

Monterey Bay Green Building/Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program


Type of organization: Accredited California Community College.

Type of training: General courses in green construction, solar energy, and water use.

Area served: Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties.

Location of training: Hartnell College, Salinas, California; Cabrillo College, Aptos, California.

Estimated trainees: 140

Instruction details: Training will include:
  • assessment;
  • case management support;
  • basic and soft skills development;
  • general courses in green construction, solar energy, and water use;
  • specialty courses in four career pathways – Electrician (Solar/PV), Green Plumbing (Solar/Thermal), Building Inspection or Greywater Design Installation and Maintenance

Result of classes: Industry internships and apprenticeships; and job placement support.

More about the organization: Hartnell College, the lead applicant, has formed partnerships with Cabrillo College, the Monterey County Workforce Investment Board, and the Santa Cruz County Workforce Investment Board. All required partners have been involved in the design of this project and are committed to membership on the project advisory board; implementing outreach and recruitment; delivering assessment services; providing instructional delivery (as appropriate for each partners); and supporting project management and evaluation. Each partner has agreed to formally provide specific services and matching support for this project.
