Water/Energy Efficiency Workforce Training Partnership
Type of organization: Accredited California Community College.
Type of training: Comprehensive pre-apprenticeship instruction to prepare unemployed or underemployed workers with little or no construction experience for retrofit, energy and water efficiency fields.
Area served: Long Beach area.
Location of training: Long Beach City College.
Estimated trainees: 100
Instruction details: Integrated with basic and "soft" skills training, the program offers these modules:
- Environmental Training;
- Introduction to Green Building;
- Energy Fundamentals;
- Energy Efficiency and Retrofits;
- Water Efficiency and Retrofits;
- Solar Hot Water Installation and Design Principles;
- Solar Electric Installation and Design Principles;
- Green Landscaping Design.
Emphasis will be on the benefits of water and energy efficiency in Long Beach's existing stock of residential and commercial buildings. The training targets the Deep Building Retrofit industry and Retro-Commissioning of Existing Buildings.
Result of classes: Classes lead to a certificate of achievement and preparation for the following occupations:
- Retrofitting Specialists;
- Resource Conservation Specialists;
- Energy Regulations Specialists;
- Green Landscaping Designers.
More about the organization: The Water/Energy Efficiency Workforce Training Partnership is made up of the Long Beach Community College District, the City of Long Beach, the Port of Long Beach, Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Board, Southern California Edison, Siemens USA and local small businesses. The Partnership has a deep understanding of the region's green building and water and energy efficiency dynamics as well as the employers' specific workforce needs.
