Type of organization: Accredited California Community College.
Type of training: Customized training in environmental literacy, green building, energy fundamentals, retrofits and energy efficiency, water efficiency, solar installation and design, basic skills, and workplace readiness.
Area served: San Bernardino County.
Location of training: lnland Empire chapter of the United States Green Building Council, Chaffey College and San Bernardino Community College District.
Estimated trainees: 200
Instruction details: 400 hours of customized training in environmental literacy, green building, energy fundamentals, retrofits and energy efficiency, water efficiency, solar installation and design, basic skills, and workplace readiness.
San Bernardino County, the county Regional Occupational Program, and Uncommon Good will provide outreach, recruitment, and assessment.
Chaffey College and San Bernardino Community College District will provide curriculum and training.
The Inland Empire chapter of the United States Green Building Council, representing 236 local companies in the green building and energy efficiency industry, will provide training, internships, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities.
Result of classes: Prepare San Bernardino County residents for four career pathways/occupations:
- Building Performance Retrofitting Specialists;
- Energy Auditors or Home Energy Raters;
- Resource Conservation or Energy Efficiency Managers;
- Solar PV/Thermal Installers.
More about the organization: The mission of the San Bernardino Community College District is to promote the discovery and application of knowledge, the acquisition of skills, and the development of intellect and character in a manner that prepares students to contribute effectively and ethically as citizens of a rapidly changing and increasingly technological world.
This mission is achieved through the District's two colleges (San Bernardino Valley College and Crafton Hills College), the Professional Development Center and public broadcast system (KVCR TV-FM) by providing high quality, effective and accountable instructional programs and services.
