Type of training: "Green" Construction and "Green" Development training for veterans and reservists of Travis Air Force Base and the unemployed.
Area served: Solano County
Location of training: Solano Community College main campus along with classes located at Travis Air Force Base, the Vacaville Center, and the Vallejo Center.
Estimated trainees: 400
Instruction details: Training activities will contain: classroom and hands-on skill training in environmental literacy, soft skill development, and Green Building (LEED certified). Specified training will consist of energy fundamentals; retrofits & energy efficiency; water efficient buildings and retrofits; solar hot water and space heating; Solar – Photovoltaic (PV). Supportive classes addressing the basic skills of Math, Reading, and Writing will be available to those students requiring such training.
Result of classes: Graduates will be skilled in: Weatherization; Green Plumbing; Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Rater; Energy Auditing; PV and Wind Energy; Solar Water and Space Heating; Rain Water Harvesting and Gray Water Reuse; Geo Thermal; Building Operations and Maintenance; LEED project participation; Sustainable Project Consulting; and further education within Sustainable Development including Architectural and Engineering pursuits.
More about the organization: Solano College is part of California's public community college system of 109 campuses in 72 districts across the state. The College's service area encompasses the communities of Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Suisun, Vacaville, Vallejo and Winters, as well as Travis Air Force Base. Many graduates of the area's fifteen public high schools and three private schools take advantage of the educational opportunities offered by Solano Community College.
