Service of Process

Important Notice from the California Energy Commission Regarding Service of Process

In lieu of personal service, the CEC consents and commits to accepting service of process by means of the “notice of acknowledgment” process in California Civil Code of Procedure, section 415.30. To complete service of process, email the summons, the complaint, and the notice of acknowledgment required by section 415.30, subdivision (b) to CECLegalService@energy.ca.gov. The CEC will reply by email with a signed electronic copy of the acknowledgment to complete service of the summons.

In lieu of personal service of document subpoenas directed to the CEC, please email them to CECLegalService@energy.ca.gov,  as described above. Deposition or document subpoenas for CEC employees must be personally served on the applicable employee. The CEC will not accept service on behalf of its employees.

Thank you for your cooperation.

In certain instances, copies of docketed material also are available at selected libraries throughout California and in communities affected by a proposed or permitted facility.

A party submitting a document to the Energy Commission can request that it be kept confidential by filing an application for confidential status.

The application must be approved by Energy Commission’s executive director. For more information on public participation in Energy Commission proceedings, visit the Public Advisor's Office.
