Energy Efficiency and Storage Conservation Auditing, Commissioning, Natural Gas and Electric Energy Services. Title: Renewable Energy Generation Firm Organization Name: SDRI Description: SYMMETRY DEVICE RESEARCH, INC. 22078 ARBOR AVENUE. SUITE 234 HAYWARD, ALAMEDA CALIFORNIA 94541-4894 Telephone: (510) 491-3264 Fax: (510) 887-0993 SUMMARY Darwin E. Richards is President and Chief Technical Officer at Symmetry Device Research Inc., a Federally Licensed Non Generating Utility Company where he is authorized to buy, sale or trade electricity, natural gas, coal and crude oil on the national, and international markets acquired through Federally own generation facilities or through Renewable Energy Technologies such as Distributed Generation, Solar Thermal and/or Photovoltaic Systems. As a technical director of Demand Side Management Marketing, he conducts hundreds of multi-level energy audits in compliance with Title 24 for residential and non-residential energy standard and requirements, sub-metering for electrical and mechanical commissioning affording clients the best directives for their cost avoidance decision and subsequent energy savings. SDRI provides their clients with a unique combination of professional building certification services, engineering design, installation management, project management, auditing, commissioning, diagnostic testing and documentation services to track system quality, reliability and failure analysis, embracing all the necessary skills, methodologies and expertise to suit and manifest the Total Project Life Cycle for the benefits of energy cost avoidance and return on investment. Although SDRI can market all fuel resources as noted above we are exclusively committed only to Green Environmental Resources. The mechanical and electrical systems must be commissioned to recognized standards and demonstrated to be operating satisfactorily within design parameters as determined in the manufacture’s specification, Such as: 1. Demand Response Research Program (DRRP) provides a methodology for the understanding of how energy is currently used and how and why improvements should be made. 2. LEED Green Building Rating and Certification System for New Commercial and Major Renovation (LEED-NC v2.2) Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Energy Management Control System (EMCS), Commissioning Design and Management. 3. Title 24 Part 6 California's Building design configurations, Variances and Standards for Residential and Nonresidential Buildings. 4. TAB-NEBB-HVAC-R independent verification, plant service reports, performance surveys, troubleshooting, operation and maintenance cycle, certified air balancing, temperature, humidity and hydronic flow, pressure, velocity, systems testing, adjusting and diagnostics. 5. Auditing and Data-log Metering for Energy Efficiency, Conservation, Storage Capacity, Water and Natural Gas Usage and waste curtailment. 6. Preparation of functional operations and preventive maintenance manuals, quality, reliability and sustainability reports and matrix schedules. He also contributes his experience and abilities toward management of long-term assets of energy cost avoidance portfolios, subsides, grants, rebated and buy-down programs. Mr. Richards conducts research and development activities in Power Electronics, Super-Conductivity and Cryogenics. He previously worked for an energy-trading firm managing other traders, supervising on issues of investment, cash flow and trading strategy. Mr. Richards received his BSEE Degree from San Jose State University’s School of Science and Engineering and MSEE Degree from Santa Clara University. PRIME CONTRACTOR’S TEAM: A joint venture between SDRI and LFCI providing Demand Response Research, Design, Development and Technology Deployment, is a group of Scientists, Engineers, and Managers responsible for strategizing, planning, developing, managing, organizing and directing a comprehensive nationwide program of all activities pertaining to “Energy Cost Avoidance”, “Return On Investment” and “Environmental Mitigation” through Demand Side Management and Auditing. The Energy Efficiency and Storage Conservation Programs will provide technical and expert professional assistance to SDRI’s management staff in associated areas of information, diagnostic and IPMVP standardized measurement technologies and is responsible for assisting in formulating policy, developing goals and objectives, while administering the Demand Side Management budget. One of the primary intents of Demand Side Management is behavioral research, as in getting the end user to pay attention to their level of energy usage, recognizing that if you (reduction in energy usage from customer behavior) can’t measure it you can’t control inefficiencies, energy waste, thermal loses and peak demand. Therefore, when customers are presented with data about their energy profile they are apt to make appropriate changes in their behavior. These changes will result in a reduction of energy costs. Capturing energy savings depends on the availability of meter data. Having accurate meter data in a timely manner means changing behavior to increase saving potential. The current utility billing mechanism means that the customer receives their billing information forty days after the period of consumption. If the customer doesn’t have the ability to make energy use changes, it won’t serve cost avoidance and the “damage is done”. Proactive energy management requires more attentive action and therefore requires more timely access to meter data. If customers were able to access their meter data any day-of-the-week they could make decisions immediately and affect energy consumption in more real-time terms. Customer’s ownership of meter data is the most efficient means of enacting this change process. Utility ownership has not resulted in the necessary changes needed. Upon your request, SDRI can provide a paper presented at the Association of Energy Engineers conference which touches on this topic of automatic meter reading and system controls.
