    5-kW fuel cell (propane)

    Overview

Yosemite National Park has installed a 5-kW Plug Power, propane-fueled fuel cell. The fuel cell provides both heat and electricity to the National Park Service Administration Building in Yosemite Valley. They considered solar power, but because of the location the amount of direct sunlight was inadequate. The proton exchange membrane fuel cell provides a quiet and environmentally friendly solution. CERL funded approximately half the cost.
