BOULDER ELECTRIC VEHICLES, INC. (BEV) GRANT AGREEMENT FOR VEHICLE MANUFACTURE OF MEDIUM AND HEAVY DUTY ALL ELECTRIC DRIVE TRUCKS AND BUSES

<< Return to Projects

Boulder Electric Vehiclesconstructed a manufacturing facility in Los Angeles to produce electric-drive trucks and buses. BEV’s facility location takes advantage of their supply network in Southern California and puts them close to their California customers.

The prototype BEV vehicle, an 11,000 pound gross vehicle weight truck with a cargo capacity of 5,000 pounds, was driven over 10,000 miles in a wide variety of weather conditions and terrains. Production at the Los Angeles plant is anticipated to start in the first quarter of 2014.

On August 13, 2013, BEV demonstrated a truck capable of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) bi-directional charging at the Los Angeles plant. BEV and their partners will be providing these vehicles to companies beginning in late 2013.

Grant Amount

The Energy Commission is providing $3,000,000 in Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Transportation Program funds.

Match Funding

The project participants provided $3,000,000 in match funding.

Project Benefits

This project will provide energy efficient manufacturing in Southern California for medium- and heavy-duty all electric drive trucks and buses. At full production of 6,000 vehicles per year, BEV will reduce 1.2 billion pounds of CO2 per year when compared with typical diesel-powered trucks.
