Benchmarking Staff Workshop

The staff of the California Energy Commission will hold a stakeholder workshop to implement portions of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's Executive Order S-20-14 (Green Building Initiative). At the workshop, the staff will discuss the benchmarking requirements and implementation options for benchmarking of commercial buildings in California. This workshop will be conducted on:

Purpose of the Workshop

The Energy Commission is seeking input from stakeholders and the general public regarding the implementation of benchmarking for all commercial buildings in California, the suitability of alternative benchmarking methodologies and benchmarking information delivery mechanisms .

The workshop will include various staff and consultant presentation on various related topics. The events and documents related to the benchmarking initiative and a meeting agenda will be posted on the benchmarking project website at www.energy.ca.gov/greenbuilding no later than Monday, March 28, 2005.

Background

Executive Order S 20-04 requires, the Energy Commission to:

"...propose by July 2005, a benchmarking methodology and building commissioning guidelines to increase energy efficiency in government and private commercial buildings."

The Green Building Action Plan, incorporated by reference into the Executive Order requires that:

...the Energy Commission shall prepare and submit to the Governor's office by July 2005 a plan, timetable and recommendations to accomplish benchmarking of all commercial and public buildings in California, including benchmarking at the time of sale, as well as a system by which benchmarking ratings can be disclosed to tenants, buyers, and lenders to advise them in making decisions.
