Notice Of Public Hearing On The
Energy Commission Staff Report On The
Supply and Cost of Alternatives to MTBE In Gasoline
The California Energy Commissions Fuels and Transportation Committee will conduct a public hearing to discuss the methodology and findings of the staff report Supply and Cost of Alternatives to MTBE in Gasoline. The report examines the possible options of replacing the use of Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) with another oxygenate, and the resulting impacts on the supply, production and price of gasoline to California consumers.
The report, as directed by the California State Legislature, evaluates:
- Alternative additives and compounds that could be used in lieu of MTBE in California.
- The relative air quality and environmental benefits associated with each alternative additive or compound.
- Potential costs or savings to the public in increases or decreases in retail gasoline prices for each alternative.
- Present and future availability of each alternative.
- Minimum time frames within which one or more alternatives could be substituted for MTBE without resulting in significant disruption of gasoline supply.
The hearing is scheduled as follows:
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1998
Beginning at 9 a.m.
