Notice of Staff Workshop on
Natural Gas Supply, Price, and
Infrastructure Assessment

Agenda and Discussion Questions Now Available

The Energy Commission staff will conduct a workshop on its recently published Natural Gas Supply and Infrastructure Assessment paper (Publication Number 700-02-006F) on:

FRIDAY, JANUARY 24, 2003
9:30 a.m.

CALIFORNIA ENERGY COMMISSION
1516 Ninth Street
Hearing Room A
Sacramento, California
(wheelchair accessible)

The purpose of the workshop is to receive comments on the paper's projections regarding natural gas supply, price, and infrastructure needs from 2002 to 2012. The staff used the North American Regional Gas (NARG) computer model as its principal assessment tool. At the workshop, the staff will solicit feedback and suggested improvements to the assumptions, inputs, and methodologies, resulting in the paper's findings and conclusions.

The workshop agenda and list of discussion questions will be posted on the Commission's website no later than January 10, 2003. (See notices at www.energy.ca.gov/naturalgas/index.html). Individuals on the Energy Commission's natural gas server list will be sent the workshop agenda and discussion questions when they are posted.

The workshop will also be an early forum for the public and the natural gas industry to provide comments on natural gas topics for the Integrated Energy Policy Report (IEPR). For the IEPR, the staff will prepare its next natural gas forecast in Spring 2003. As required by Chapter 568 of the Statutes of 2002 (formerly Senate Bill 1389), the Energy Commission will conduct natural gas forecasting and assessments of: 1) statewide and regional demand, 2) adequacy of supplies, 3) infrastructure needs, and 4) markets. In addition, the Energy Commission is required to identify trends and potential problems or uncertainties in the natural gas markets. (See www.energy.ca.gov/energypolicy/index.html for more information on the IEPR.).

The staff welcomes written comments or questions before the workshop. Written comments should be addressed to the following:

California Energy Commission
Attn: Jairam Gopal, Supervisor
Natural Gas Unit
