Nuclear Energy In California

Nuclear power plants in California produced 35,692 gigawatt hours of electricity in 2007. Additionally, 9,164 GWh of nuclear-generated electricity was imported into California. The total of 44,856 GWh, represents 14.8 percent of electricity from all sources in 2007.

The total dependable capacity of California's nuclear-supplied power is more than 5,300 megawatts, including the two operating nuclear power facilities in California and portions of nuclear facilities in other states owned by California electricity companies.

Oversight for nuclear energy rests with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which regulates U.S. commercial nuclear power plants and the civilian use of nuclear materials.
