Distributed Energy Resources System Integration focuses on issues related to using relatively small-scale distributed generation resources as part of the larger interconnected electricity grid. Issues addressed by this element include interconnection standards and technology, grid impacts, and market integration. This focus area complements the PIER-Renewable Program and the Environmentally Preferred Advanced Generation (EPAG) Program. Both have significant RD&D efforts on small-scale generation technologies. The ESI Program also complements the CPUC efforts to deploy DER systems.
