Strategic systems and enabling technologies support innovative and often long-range RD&D. Enabling technologies have multiple applications and thus provide benefits in disparate areas, for example, power electronics. Current topics in this area are energy storage, seismic technologies, and tools for market analysis and operation. This program element is open to new ideas for innovation that could provide benefits to California but do not fit elsewhere in the structure of the PIER program.
