********************************************************************* NEWS RELEASE FROM THE CALIFORNIA ENERGY COMMISSION ********************************************************************* For Immediate Release: Contact: Rob Schlichting September 7, 1995 916-654-4989 ELVERTA JOINT SCHOOL DISTRICT WINS AWARD FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY To honor its commitment to reducing energy use, the Elverta Joint School District will be presented with the California Energy Commission's "Bright Schools Energy Management Award" at the district's School Board meeting Monday, September 11, 1995. The framed resolution commends the district for its significant contributions "to the State of California's environmental quality, economic growth and energy security." "Working with the Commission, the Elverta Joint School District has completed highly successful heating, air conditioning and lighting retrofit projects at Elverta Elementary and Alpha Intermediate Schools," said Commissioner David Rohy of the Energy Commission. "As a result of the improvements, this small, rural two-school district will cut its energy bills by more than $5,000 a year." To fund its energy projects, the district relied on nearly $30,000 in low-interest loans from the Energy Commission's Bright Schools Program. From its energy savings alone, the district should be able to repay the loans in just over six years. "The Elverta district offers a shining example for other schools around the state to follow," said Rohy. The Bright Schools Program was established to provide technical assistance and to finance energy projects for small and middle-sized districts. Funds come from negotiated settlements and court judgments against petroleum companies for consumer overcharges between 1973 and 1981. Commissioner Rohy will present the award on behalf of the California Energy Commission. The Elverta Joint School District is located in north Sacramento County, near the junction of Sacramento, Sutter and Placer counties. ### For more information, contact: Fred Warchol, Superintendent, Elverta Joint School District, (916) 991-5400 Energy Commission Contact: Rob Schlichting, Information Officer, California Energy Commission, (916) 654-4989 end of file File Name: 95-09-07_ Elverta_Joint_School_District_Wins_Awar
