Consumer Choice Group Continues
Discussion of Electric Industry Restructuring



What

In anticipation of the state's restructuring of the electric industry, the California Energy Commission has organized the Energy Services Working Group on Consumer Choice.

Through a series of monthly meetings that began in June of 1995, the Energy Services Working Group tracks the evolution of electricity restructuring and involves various industry stakeholders in seeking ways to make energy service markets more responsive to customer demands for greater choice.

The group's next meeting will discuss access to utility-held customer information by other competing businesses in a new restructured environment. The group will address a draft information access report produced by a study team that investigated topics such as the customer's right to privacy; the information needs of competing service providers; and lessons learned from otherrestructured businesses.

Why

At the meetings, the group seeks to identify key issues that should be addressed by public policy and to understand the participants' positions on these issues as the electric utility monopoly breaks up.


Who

Participants to these meetings include energy professionals representing utilities, consumer and research groups, government agencies, electricity marketers and customer aggregators, energy service companies and representatives of other restructured industries, such as telecommunications and natural gas. Interested stakeholders are encourage to join the meetings.
