Deadline extended for
greenhouse energy efficiency loans
Greenhouse and nursery operators eager to cut their energy costs now have
until January 29, 1999 to apply for low-interest loans from the California
Energy Commission.
To encourage innovative energy efficiency technology in California, the
Commission is making nearly $800,000 available at the fixed interest rate of
3.7 percent. Loans of up to $150,000 can be made to individual farmers or to
groups willing to use their successful projects as teaching sites to
demonstrate their energy savings to others.
Any grower operating a greenhouse or nursery business in California may
apply. All projects must have a simple payback of seven years or less. Loan
recipients will be selected on a competitive basis and should be notified in
May 1999.
