If your publication, radio or television station offers a calendar of community events, you may want to include news of the following workshops.

Next week the California Energy Commission staff will conduct conferences regarding the High Desert Power Project, Limited Liability Company (LLC)'s proposed 680 to 830 megawatt natural gas-fueled electricity generation power plant.

On January 21, 1999, the Energy Commission staff published a Staff Assessment on the project. The document contains staff's findings and recommendations based on information received to date. Three public workshops on the Staff Assessment will be held:

On Wednesday, February 3, 1999, the staff will discuss findings and recommendations for air quality, hazardous materials handling, water resources, biological resources and cultural resources.

On Thursday, February 4, 1999, the staff will discuss public health, worker safety and fire protection, transmission line safety and nuisance, traffic and transportation, land use, socioeconomics, visual resources, waste management and paleontological resources.

On Friday, February 5, 1999, the staff will discuss project alternatives, noise, transmission line engineering, facility design, efficiency reliability and need conformance.

The proposed project is to be located in the northeast corner of the Southern California International Airport (formerly George Air Force Base), in the city of Victorville, San Bernardino County.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to comment and ask questions during the workshop.
