Energy Commission Schedules Informational Hearing
and Site Visit to Proposed Metcalf Energy Center Project

Sacramento — On Monday, July 12, 1999, members of the public and other interested parties can learn about the Metcalf Energy Center Project, a 600-megawatt power plant proposed by the Calpine Corporation and Bechtel Enterprises, Inc., for construction and operation in San Jose.

If approved, the Metcalf Energy Center would be located just west of Monterey Road, between Metcalf Road to the north and Blanchard Road to the south. The proposed project would be a natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant, with a 230-kilovolt switchyard and approximately 200 feet of new 230 kilovolt transmission line.

What: Informational hearing and site visit
Who: The hearing is an open meeting where interested members of the public are welcome to participate and ask questions about the project.
When: MONDAY, July 12, 1999
Afternoon session beginning at 1:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.
Site Visit to Follow
Evening session beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The first session of the Informational Hearing will convene at 1:30 p.m. A recess will be taken at 4:15 p.m. to allow for a Site Visit during daylight hours. Bus transportation to the site will leave from the hearing location at approximately 4:30 p.m. Following the Site Visit, the buses will return to the hearing location and the second session of the Informational Hearing will convene at approximately 7:30 p.m. Reservations for the bus transportation need to be made through the Energy Commission's Public Adviser's Office.
