Community Calendar Announcement

December 9, 1999

Dear Editor/Publisher:

If your publication, radio or television station offers a calendar of community events, you may wish to include news of the following evidentiary hearings.

The Committee designated to conduct proceedings on the Application for Certification of the Sunrise Cogeneration and Power Plant Project will hold evidentiary hearings as follows:

January 10, 11 and 13, 2000
Beginning at 9 a.m.

California Energy Commission
First Floor Hearing Room A
1516 Ninth Street
Sacramento, California
(Wheelchair Accessible)

The Sunrise Cogeneration and Power Company is proposing to construct and operate a 320-megawatt natural gas-fired cogeneration power plant. The proposed project is to be located in western Kern County about 35 miles southwest of Bakersfield, 3.0 miles northwest of Fellows, and 2.5 miles south of Derby Acres. The power plant and related facilities, such as the electric transmission line, natural gas pipeline, and water lines, are under the California Energy Commission's siting authority.

The purpose of the evidentiary hearings is to establish the factual record in this case through the taking of written and oral testimony as well as documentary exhibits from the parties. The evidentiary hearings are, by law, more structured than the informal workshops which have already occurred. All witnesses must file their testimony in writing prior to testifying at the evidentiary hearings.

Members of the public and interested governmental agencies are invited to attend these hearings and may offer unsworn public comments on the matters discussed. These public comments will be entered into the record of the proceeding and may be used to supplement the evidence of record. Public comments, by themselves, however, are not sufficient to support a finding of fact or a decision on an issue.

The Commission's Public Adviser, Roberta Mendonca, is available to provide information or to assist those interested in participating at these hearings. She may be reached at (916) 654-4489, toll free at 800-822-6228, or by e-mail at pao@energy.state.ca.us.

The Commission's Web Site contains current information on the proposed project at:
