Community Calendar Announcement

August 11, 2000

Dear Editor / Publisher:

If your publication, radio or television station offers a calendar of community events, you may want to include news of the following conference.

The Committee overseeing the Application for Certification for the proposed Pastoria Energy Facility will sponsor a status conference and a prehearing conference as follows:

WEDNESDAY, August 16, 2000
MONDAY, August 28, 2000

Both events begin at 2 p.m.
California Energy Commission

First Floor Hearing Room A
1516 Ninth Street
Sacramento, California
(Wheelchair Accessible)

The purpose of the Status Conference is to discuss the timetable for obtaining information required to complete Energy Commission staff's analyses. The topics of discussion will be the Final Determination of Compliance relative to the ammonia slip, the Habitat Conservation Plan timetable approval, county review of Williamson Act, applicant water plan, and the visual resources evaluation. The Prehearing Conference will provide interested parties and agencies an opportunity to identify substantive topics which are not in dispute, require further analysis, and require adjudication at the Committee's evidentiary hearings.

The project planned by Pastoria Energy Facility, LLC. would be a 750-megawatt, natural gas-fired, electric generating facility located on an undeveloped site on Tejon Ranch, 30 miles south of Bakersfield, and 6.5 miles east of Interstate 5 at the base of the Tehachapi Mountains.

Members of the general public and interested parties may participate and offer comments during the conference. Persons requiring information on how to participate should contact the Energy Commission's Public Adviser, Roberta Mendonca, at (916) 654-4489, toll free at (800) 822-6228, or e-mail at
