Energy Commission Staff Completes
Assessment of Pastoria Energy Facility

Sacramento -- A final staff assessment of the construction and operation of the proposed Pastoria Energy Facility is now available from the California Energy Commission. The report and a detailed description of the power project can be viewed and printed from the Energy Commission's Web Site located at:

The Pastoria Energy Facility, LLC, would be a 750-megawatt, natural gas-fired, electric generating facility located on an undeveloped site on Tejon Ranch, 30 miles south of Bakersfield, and 6.5 miles east of Interstate 5 at the base of the Tehachapi Mountains.

The proposed Pastoria project and related facilities -- such as the electric transmission line, a natural gas line and water supply lines -- are under the Energy Commission's jurisdiction. When issuing a license, the Energy Commission acts as lead State agency under the California Environmental Quality Act. The Commission's process is functionally equivalent to preparing an environmental impact report.

The Energy Commission's final staff assessment analyzes the environmental, public health and safety, and engineering elements of the Pastoria Energy Facility. The report includes conclusions and conditions for certification of the design, construction, operation and closure of the proposed facility and will become part of the factual record used by the Energy Commission to reach a final decision on the proposed project. This factual record is developed over the course of a series of formal evidentiary hearings that will be held on the project.
