Community Calendar Announcement

October 23, 2000

Dear Editor / Publisher:

If your publication, radio or television station offers a calendar of community events, you may want to include news of the following conference.

The Committee overseeing the Application for Certification for the proposed Sunrise Power Project will hold a Prehearing Conference as follows:

MONDAY, October 30, 2000
10 a.m.
California Energy Commission
First Floor Hearing Room B
1516 Ninth Street
Sacramento, California
(Wheelchair Accessible)

The purpose of this conference is to assess the parties' readiness for evidentiary hearings, to identify areas of agreement or dispute, and to discuss procedures of the licensing process related to the Sunrise Power Plant.

The Sunrise Cogeneration and Power Company is proposing to construct and operate a 320-megawatt natural gas-fired cogeneration power plant. The proposed project is to be located in western Kern County about 35 miles southwest of Bakersfield, 3 miles northwest of Fellows, and 2.5 miles south of Derby Acres. The power plant and related facilities, such as the electric transmission line, natural gas pipeline, and water lines, are under the California Energy Commission's siting authority.

Members of the general public and interested parties are encouraged to attend and offer comments during the conference. Persons requiring information on how to participate should contact the Energy Commission's Public Adviser, Roberta Mendonca, at (916) 654-4489, toll free at (800) 822-6228, or e-mail at: pao@energy.state.ca.us
