California Energy Commission Update:
California Gasoline & Diesel Supplies

Sacramento -The average retail price of regular gasoline changed very little in California or in the nation over the past week.

For the week ending October 30, 2000, the average retail price of California reformulated regular gasoline held steady at $1.80 a gallon. The nationwide average pump price remained at $1.55.

The difference between our gas prices and those in the rest of the country continues to be 25 cents.

Crude oil prices stayed above the $31 mark. Yesterday, Alaskan crude - the source of 30 percent of California's oil supply - sold for $31.25 a barrel.

Production of CARB gasoline was off nearly nine percent from the week before. For the week ending October 27, 2000, production averaged 864,000 barrels a day.

The statewide rack - or wholesale - price on Tuesday was $1.31 a gallon, up an average of six cents from October 24.

Prices on the spot market are a cent lower than they were a week ago. Spot prices were $1.30 a gallon yesterday in Southern California and $1.25 in the Bay Area.

Diesel fuel

Statewide diesel prices remained relatively steady in California over the past week. On October 30, 2000, the average retail price of CARB diesel in the northern part of the State was $1.98 a gallon, two cents cheaper than a week ago. Truck stops in Central California reported averages of $1.89, one cent below the per-gallon price the week before. Average prices at Southern California stations remained at $1.91 a gallon.

Output of California Reformulated Diesel was up a healthy 31 percent from the previous week, besting production figures for last year at this time by more than 48 percent.

For the week ending October 27, 2000, refineries produced an average of 233,700 barrels of Reformulated Diesel a day. Diesel inventories improved by 10 percent over the previous week.
