Informational Hearing, Site Visit
and Workshop Scheduled
On Proposed United Golden Gate Power Project
Sacramento -- On Thursday, November 16, 2000, members of the public and other interested parties will have an opportunity to learn more about the proposed United Golden Gate Power Project.
If approved, the United Golden Gate Power Project would be a 51-megawatt natural gas-fired, simple cycle, electric generating facility operated to accommodate electrical peak demand through the summer of 2003. The project would be located in San Mateo County at the San Francisco International Airport, adjacent to the United Maintenance Facility.
The site visit, informational hearing and data request workshop will be held on:

The project applicant, El Paso Merchant Energy, is seeking an expedited permitting decision from the Energy Commission under terms of the California Energy Security and Reliability Act. This law provides for a four-month certification process for simple cycle thermal power plants and related facilities that can be put into service by August 1, 2001. The Energy Commission began its four-month review of this project on October 26, 2000.
