November 21, 2000
Dear Editor / Publisher:
If your publication, radio or television station offers a calendar of community events, you may want to include news of the following conference.
The Committee designated to conduct proceedings on the proposed Metcalf Energy Center has scheduled a public prehearing conference as follows:
Thursday, November 30, 2000
Beginning at 6 p.m. and concluding no later than 10 p.m.
BALDWIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
280 Martinvale Lane
San Jose, California
The location of the meeting is wheelchair accessible
The basic purposes of the Prehearing Conference are to assess the parties' readiness for evidentiary hearings, to clarify areas of agreement or dispute, to identify witnesses and exhibits, to determine upon which topics parties desire to cross-examine witnesses from other parties, and to discuss procedures which will assist the Committee in concluding this licensing process in as timely a manner as feasible.
Calpine Corporation and Bechtel Enterprises, Inc. (Calpine/Bechtel) jointly are proposing to develop the Metcalf Energy Center, a 600-megawatt, natural gas–fired, combined cycle power plant. The proposed site lies at the southern base of Tulare Hill in northern Coyote Valley of south San Jose to the west of Monterey Highway and south of the Metcalf Road intersection. The site is bordered by Fisher Creek to the north and west and the Union Pacific Railroad right–of–way to the east. Blanchard Road is to the south.
Members of the public will have the opportunity to comment and ask questions during the conference. Persons requiring information on how to participate in the Energy Commission's review of the proposed project should contact Roberta Mendonca, the Energy Commission's Public Adviser, at (916) 654-4489, toll free in California at (800) 822-6228, or by e-mail at email@example.com.
