January 16, 2001

Dear Editor/Publisher:

If your publication, radio or television station offers a calendar of community events, you may want to include news of the following workshops.

The staff of the California Energy Commission will hold a project status and siting alternatives workshop and a data response/data request workshop on the proposed Potrero Power Plant Project as follows:

Project Status and Siting Alternatives Workshop:

6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
ending no later than 10:00p.m.
Potrero Hill Neighborhood House
953 De Haro Street
San Francisco, CA
(Wheelchair Accessible)
Data Response/Data Request Workshop:

2:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
with a one hour supper break at 5:00 p.m.
Potrero Hill Neighborhood House
953 De Haro Street
San Francisco, CA
(Wheelchair Accessible)

The project status and siting alternatives workshop is being held to keep interested persons and parties informed of the status of the siting case by providing the opportunity to ask general questions about both the project and the Energy Commission's siting process. A presentation will also be shown on the status of the staff's analysis of alternative power plant sites, to which staff hopes to receive both oral and written comments from the public and interested agencies.

The purpose of the data response/data request workshop is to discuss the applicant's data responses to the staff's first set of data requests, to allow the applicant to ask clarifying questions of the staff about the third set of data requests and to discuss potential toxic sediment issues.

Southern Energy Delta, LLC proposes to develop the Potrero Power Plant Unit #7 Project, a 530-megawatt, natural gas-fired, combined cycle power plant. The proposed site is at the existing Potrero Power Plant site, formerly owned by Pacific Gas and Electric Company, which is located in the Potrero District of the City and County of San Francisco. Unit 7 will be an addition to the site's existing Units 4, 5 and 6 which are 52-megawatt "peaker" units, and Unit 3 which is a 206-megawatt steam turbine.

Members of the public and interested agencies are invited to participate in the workshop. Time will be reserved to allow members of the public to comment. Those who wish further information about how to participate should contact Roberta Mendonca, the Commission's Public Adviser, at (916) 654-4489, toll free in California at (800) 822-6228, or by e-mail at
