Community Calendar Announcement

January 19, 2001

Dear Editor/Publisher:

If your publication, radio or television station offers a calendar of community events, you may want to include news of the following hearings.

The Committee designated to conduct proceedings on the proposed United Golden Gate Power Project has scheduled evidentiary hearings as follows:

Beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Holiday Inn
(Free Parking Available)
275 South Airport Boulevard
South San Francisco, California
(Wheelchair Accessible)

Beginning at 9:00 a.m.
California Energy Commission
First Floor Hearing Room B
1516 Ninth Street
Sacramento, California
(Wheelchair Accessible)

Evidentiary hearings are held to establish the factual record in this case through the taking of written and oral testimony as well as documentary exhibits from the parties. Evidentiary hearings are more structured then conferences and workshops which have already occurred. The public and interested agencies are encouraged to attend and participate in all evidentiary hearings.

To be owned and operated by El Paso Merchant Energy Company, the United Golden Gate Power Plant Project is a 51-megawatt simple cycle power plant proposed for a site at the San Francisco International Airport in San Mateo County. The plant would operate between the years 2001 and 2003.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to comment and ask questions during the prehearing conference. Persons requiring information on how to participate in the Energy Commission's review of the project should contact Roberta Mendonca, the Energy Commission's Public Adviser, at (916) 654-4489, toll free at (800) 822-6228, or by e-mail at
