Nueva Azalea Power Plant
Put on Hold By Applicant

Sacramento -- Sunlaw Energy Corporation, the applicant proposing to build the Nueva Azalea Power Plant Project in the City of Southgate, has requested that the California Energy Commission suspend its licensing process for the generating facility. The formal request for suspension will be heard at the April 4, 2001, Energy Commission Business Meeting.

A data response workshop scheduled for today at 1:30 p.m. at the West Middle School, 11985 Old River School Road in Downey has been cancelled.

The applicant's request to the Energy Commission comes after a local referendum vote yesterday on the project.

The Nueva Azalea Power Plant would be a 550-megawatt, natural gas-fired, combined cycle electricity generating facility.
