Community Calendar Announcement

April 20, 2001

Dear Editor/Publisher:

If your publication, radio or television station offers a calendar of community events, you may want to include news of the following conference.

California Energy Commission staff will conduct a Committee Status Conference regarding the Morro Bay Power Plant Project as follows:

Beginning at 6 p.m.
Morro Bay Elementary School Auditorium
1130 Napa Avenue
Morro Bay, California
(Wheelchair Accessible)

This status conference will provide a public forum allowing the Applicant, Commission Staff, interested parties, governmental agencies and members of the public to indicate whether case development is progressing satisfactorily, and to bring potential schedule delays or other relevant matters to the Committee's attention. Proposed schedules and possible procedural issues that may be significant to this proceeding will also be discussed.

Duke Energy Morro Bay LLC is proposing to modernize the proposed 1,200-megawatt Morro Bay Power Plant Project. The "modernization" project is proposed to be located at the existing 1,030-megawatt Morro Bay Power Plant site that is owned and operated by Duke Energy. The applicant proposes construction of two new generating units which replace the currently operating generating units with two state-of-the-art 600-megawatt combined cycle units. Upon completion of the project the plant will be capable of producing 1200-megawatts. Each new unit will consist of two gas-fired turbines and one steam turbine driven by the heat produced by the other two turbines.

The public is encouraged to participate and will have the opportunity to provide comments and ask questions during the workshop. Persons requiring information on how to participate in the Energy Commission's review of the proposed project should contact Roberta Mendonca, the Energy Commission's Public Adviser, at (916) 654-4489 or toll free in California at (800) 822-6228, or by e-mail at

Information and related documents about the proposed project are available on the Energy Commission's web page at:
