Energy Commission Schedules Hearing, Tour of
Proposed Power Plant Site in Stanislaus County

Sacramento -- On Thursday, June 28, 2001, members of the public and other interested parties will have an opportunity to learn more about the proposed Woodland Generating Station No. 2, an 80-megawatt power plant proposed by the Modesto Irrigation District, for construction and operation in Stanislaus County. The project was admitted under the Commission's Small Power Plant Exemption process.

If approved, the project would be located on a 2.5 acre portion of an already existing generating facility on Woodland Avenue. The project would be a natural gas-fired, combined-cycle power plant consisting of one modern combustion turbine and a condensing steam turbine.

What: Site Visit and Informational Hearing
When: Thursday, June 28, 2001
Beginning at 4 p.m.
Where: Modesto Irrigation District Headquarters

The informational hearing will be preceded by the site visit. Bus transportation to the site will be provided from the hearing location. Landowners, members of the general public, and governmental agencies are invited to participate. The Public Adviser, Roberta Mendonca, will be present to explain the Commission's certification process and assist those interested in participating.

The California Energy Commission is allowed to exempt power plants up to 100-megawatts from the Commission's power plant site certification process if it finds that no substantial adverse impact on the environment will result from the construction or operation of the proposed facility. The proposed project must also comply with requirements of other permitting agencies.
