Dear Editor/Publisher:

If your publication, radio or television station offers a calendar of community events, you may want to include news of the following conference and hearing.

The California Energy Commission staff has scheduled a pre-hearing conference and evidentiary hearing to discuss the proposed Modesto Woodland Power Project. They are to be held as follows:

Pre-Hearing Conference

Beginning at 10 a.m.
California Energy Commission
Hearing Room A
1516 Ninth Street
Sacramento, California
Or participants may call in at: 1-888-664-9856
Participant's Code: Modesto

Evidentiary Hearing

Beginning at 10 a.m.
Modesto Irrigation District Headquarters
1231 Eleventh Street
1516 Ninth Street
Modesto, California

The pre-hearing conference will assess the readiness for evidentiary hearings, identify areas of agreement and dispute, and discuss procedures for the evidentiary hearing. The purpose of the evidentiary hearing is to establish the factual record necessary to reach a decision in this case.

The Modesto Irrigation District proposes to construct and operate an 80-megawatt, natural gas-fired, combined cycle power plant. The site would be located on a 2.5-acre portion of a 7-acre site with an existing 49.4-megawatt generating facility on Woodland Avenue, in Modesto.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to comment and ask clarifying questions on any of the subjects. For more information on how to participate, contact the Energy CommissionŐs Public Adviser, Roberta Mendonca, at (916) 654-4489, toll free at (800) 822-6228, or by e-mail at

More information about the proposed project is available on the Energy Commission's Web site at:

Please feel free to contact me at (916) 654-4989 if you prefer to have your name removed from our mailing list. Thank you.
