Morro Bay Power Project Community Calendar

Community Calendar Announcement

November 21, 2001

Dear Editor/Publisher:

If your publication, radio or television station offers a calendar of community events, you may want to include news of the following site visit and workshop.

The Committee overseeing the Application for Certification for the proposed Morro Bay Power Plant Project will conduct a prehearing conference as follows:

Beginning at 9 a.m.
Veteran’s Memorial Hall
209 Surf Street
Morro Bay, California
(Wheelchair Accessible)

The prehearing conference is being held to assess the partiesí readiness for evidentiary hearings, to clarify areas of agreement or dispute, to identify witnesses and exhibits, to determine upon which topics parties desire to cross-examine witnesses from other parties, and to discuss procedures which will assist the Committee in concluding the licensing process.

Duke Energy is proposing a 1,200-megawatt modernization of the existing 1,030-megawatt Morro Bay Power Plant. The applicant plans construction of two new 600-megawatt combined cycle units to replace the currently operating generating units. Each new unit will consist of two gas-fired turbines and one steam turbine.

The public is encouraged to participate and will have the opportunity to provide comments and ask questions during the conference. Persons requiring information on how to participate in the Energy Commissionís review of the proposed project should contact Roberta Mendonca, the Energy Commissionís Public Adviser, at (916) 654-4489 or toll free in California at (800) 822-6228, or by e-mail at: .
