Energy Commission Schedules Informational Hearing
and Site Visit to Proposed Avenal Power Plant


Sacramento - On Monday, January 28, members of the public and other interested parties will have an opportunity to learn more about a 600-megawatt power plant proposed by Duke Energy Avenal, LLC.

If approved, the plant would be built on 25 acres of a 148-acre site located in the agricultural region of the San Joaquin Valley, just south of the Fresno County line. The Avenal Energy Project will be a combined cycle generating plant consisting of two natural gas-fired turbines and one steam turbine.

What: Informational Hearing and Site Visit
When: MONDAY, JANUARY 28, 2002
Beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Where: City of Avenal Community Center

The informational hearing will follow the site visit. Bus transportation will be provided to the site from the community center parking lot. Land owners, members of the public, and governmental agencies are invited to participate.
