Community Calendar Announcement

April 8, 2002

Dear Editor/Publisher:

If your publication, radio or television station offers a calendar of community events, you may want to include news of the following hearing.

The Committee overseeing the Application for Certification for the proposed El Segundo Modernization Project will hold a project status hearing as follows:

Beginning at 9 a.m.
Hearing Room A
California Energy Commission
1516 Ninth Street
Sacramento, California
(Wheelchair Accessible)
Passcode: El Segundo
Leader: Garret Shean

The hearing will provide a chance for the Committee to review the following: the staus of the proceeding, pending motions to Compel Responses to Data Requests, the timeliness of Applicant data submissions, and the schedule for the remainder of the Application for Certification proceeding.

EL Segundo Power II LLC is seeking approval to replace the existing El Segundo Generating Station Units 1 and 2 in the City of El Segundo with a natural gas-fired combined cycle electric generation facility. The existing Units 3 and 4 located adjacent to Units 1 and 2 will not be modified by this project. The new combined cycle facility is expected to generate 630 megawatts under nominal conditions. This is 280 megawatts more than the old Units 1 and 2 were capable of generating when operating.

The public is encouraged to participate and will have the opportunity to provide comments and ask questions during the hearing. Persons requiring information on how to participate in the Energy Commission's review of the proposed project should contact Roberta Mendonca, the Energy Commission's Public Adviser, at (916) 654-4489 or toll free in California at (800) 822-6228, or by e-mail at:
