Community Calendar Announcement

July 19, 2002

Dear Editor/Publisher:

If your publication, radio or television station offers a calendar of community events, you may want to include news of the following hearings.

The Committee overseeing the Application for Certification for the proposed Potrero Power Plant Project will hold evidentiary hearings as follows:

JULY 22, 23, & 24, 2002
Beginning at 10 a.m.
California Public Utilities Commission
Auditorium, First Floor
505 Van Ness Avenue
San Francisco, California
(Wheelchair Accessible)

Evidentiary hearings are held to establish the factual record necessary to reach a decision in this case. This is accomplished by taking oral, written, or documentary evidence from the parties. Formal evidentiary hearings are more structured than Committee conferences or staff workshops.

Mirant Potrero LLC proposes to develop the Potrero Power Plant Unit #7 Project, a 530-megawatt, natural gas-fired, combined cycle power plant. The proposed site is at the existing Potrero Power Plant site, formerly owned by Pacific Gas and Electric Company, which is located in the Potrero District of the City and County of San Francisco. Unit 7 will be an addition to the site's existing Units 4, 5 and 6 which are 52-megawatt "peaker" units, and Unit 3 which is a 206-megawatt steam turbine.

Members of the public and interested agencies are invited to participate in the conference. Time will be reserved to allow members of the public to comment. Those who wish further information about how to participate should contact Roberta Mendonca, the Commission's Public Adviser, at (916) 654-4489, toll free in California at (800) 822-6228, or by e-mail at: pao@energy.state.ca.us.
