Energy Commission to Hold Hearing and Site Visit
for Pastoria Energy Facility Expansion

Sacramento - Members of the public and other interested parties will have an opportunity to learn more about the proposed Pastoria Energy Facility Expansion project at an upcoming Informational Hearing and Site Visit.

The Pastoria Energy Facility Expansion project, as proposed, would be built on the grounds of the 750-megawatt Pastoria Energy Facility which began commercial operation earlier this year. The existing facility is owned by Calpine and is located 30 miles south of Bakersfield near the Grapevine in southern Kern County. The expansion project consists of a simple-cycle, natural gas-fired generation station that could produce 160 megawatts when the summertime demand for power in Southern California is greatest. Calpine expects the expansion project to begin commercial operation in June 2007.

The Committee comprised of two Commissioners conducting the California Energy Commission review of the Application For Certification of the Pastoria Energy Facility Expansion project will sponsor both the hearing and site visit.

At the hearing, the applicant will discuss the projects plans and impacts. Members of the public can ask questions and provide comments, while the Energy Commission staff will identify potential issues. Following the hearing, landowners, governmental agencies and members of the public are invited
