California Energy Commission launches
new consumer information page of gasoline

Sacramento - This afternoon the California Energy Commission will hold an internet press conference on the fuel situation and its impacts on California following the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina.

Who:
Joseph Desmond,
Chairman of the California Energy Commission

When:
2 p.m. (PDT)

Why:
Gasoline prices have risen sharply across the country and in California after Hurricane Katrina damaged much of the petroleum infrastructure in the Gulf Coast. Some areas of the country have reported fuel shortages. Although supplies of gasoline are adequate in California, prices have climbed to near $3.00 a gallon.

What:
As Californians go into the three-day Labor Day weekend, the Energy Commission will launch a new web page providing consumers with information on gasoline prices and supplies throughout the state. It includes ways to save fuel; conserving gasoline can slow rising gasoline prices and help to alleviate fuel supply problems throughout the nation.

The site also includes a complaint form that consumers can fill out if they believe they are being price gouged.

At today's press conference, Chairman Desmond will explain the new site and take reporters' questions on the fuel situation in the State.
