Webex News Conference explains soaring natural gas prices
expected for California this winter
Sacramento - Tomorrow, Tuesday, October 4, the California Energy Commission will hold an Internet press conference on the California's escalating natural gas prices and tight supplies following the devastating effecting of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Joseph Desmond, Chairman of the California Energy Commission
Tuesday, October 4, 2005
1 p.m. (PDT)
Californians are expected to experience sharp increases in natural gas prices this winter after the Gulf Coast's oil and natural gas production and infrastructure took a battering from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Although California receives most of its gas from west of the Gulf, prices across the nation will be impacted as supplies are strained.
At tomorrow's press conference, Chairman Desmond will examine California's natural gas situation, rising prices, current and forecasted supplies and storage for this winter and in the long-term. The Energy Commission's Fuels Web page is being expanded to include natural gas information that will assist consumers in reducing natural gas use this winter. The Website will also feature links to the state's utilities and the California Public Utilities Commission.
The Chairman will answer reporters' questions on the natural gas situation in the state. The meeting will be recorded and available on the Energy Commission's web site: www.energy.ca.gov/consumerfuels
