Energy Commission Community Calendar Announcement -
Pastoria Energy Facility Expansion

Dear Editor/Publisher:

If your publication, radio outlet, or television station offers a calendar of community events, please include news of the following event:

The California Energy Commission is reviewing Calpine Corporation's Application for Certification for expansion of the Pastoria Energy Facility in southern Kern County. A Committee of the California Energy Commission will hold an evidentiary hearing on:

THURSDAY, MARCH 30, 2006
Beginning at 1:30 p.m.
California Energy Commission
1516 Ninth Street
Hearing Room A
Sacramento, California
(Wheelchair Accessible)

Interested members of the public who are not able to attend the hearing may participate by calling, toll-free, 1-888-810-5901. The pass code is Pastoria. The conference leader is Susan Gefter.

The purpose of the evidentiary hearing is to establish the factual record necessary to reach a decision in this case. This is accomplished by taking oral, written, or documentary evidence presented by Calpine and the expert Energy Commission staff.

Calpine filed its proposal with the Energy Commission on April 29, 2005, to construct and operate a 160-megawatt (MW) simple-cycle peaking plant to expand the capacity of its existing Pastoria Energy Facility, which is currently licensed to generate 750 MW. The natural gas-fired project is proposed for a 30-acre site adjacent to the existing Pastoria Energy Facility at the Tejon Ranch in Kern County. The site is about 30 miles south of Bakersfield in the town of Lebec and about 6.5 miles east of Interstate 5 near the base of the Tehachapi Mountains.

Members of the public and other interested agencies are invited to participate and provide comments. Those who wish further information about how to participate should contact Margret J. Kim, the Commissions Public Adviser, at (916) 654-4489, toll free in California at (800) 822-6228, or by email at: pao@energy.state.ca.us

The Commission's Web site contains current information on the proposed project at:
