Joint workshop to discuss affordable housing in
State Solar Programs

June 12, 2006 The California Energy Commission and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) will hold a joint workshop to discuss affordable housing in solar incentive programs.

The CPUC's California Solar Initiative, and the California Energy Commission's New Solar Homes Partnership are part of the Governor's Million Solar Roofs Initiative. The initiative's goal is to create 3,000 megawatts of solar electricity in California by the end of 2017.

Ten percent of the solar funding is set aside for low-income and affordable housing participants. Both commissions are committed to including the affordable housing market in the state's solar programs.

Discussion at the workshop will include how components of both programs should be structured to best fit the affordable housing community needs. Agenda topics include: overview of the California Solar Initiative and affordable housing in California, expectations and goals for solar in affordable housing, program implementation issues and strategies, and the next steps for both programs.
