Electricity & Air Quality Issues Discussed at Conference
Energy Commission Presents Research for a Cleaner California

WHAT: The California Electricity & Air Quality Conference is a scientific forum presenting current issues and activities on air quality and electricity usage. This inaugural conference will examine the relationship between California's air pollution concerns and the increasing statewide demand for electricity.

By providing research, improved tools, and innovative techniques, the California Energy Commission's Public Interest Energy Research Environmental Area (PIER-EA) is working to improve the science and knowledge of California's air quality. This conference is co-hosted by the California Air Resources Board, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, and the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

California Energy Commission Vice Chair James Boyd will offer opening remarks and be available for media interviews.

WHEN: October 3-4, 2006, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

AGENDA: An agenda may be viewed online at: www.energy.ca.gov/pier/conferences+seminars/

WHERE: Radisson Hotel, 500 Leisure Lane, Sacramento.

WHY: A recent Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) showed that air pollution is the state's most important environmental issue. One in four Californians surveyed (24%) consider air pollution to be the top issue. However, percentages increased when residents of the Central Valley (26%), Los Angeles (28%), and the Inland Empire (31%) were surveyed. This conference will showcase current trends and research in the air quality and electricity use in California.

WHO: Leading experts in the area of air quality, indoor air quality and energy will present research at this two-day conference. Representatives from Altostratus Inc., Aspen Environmental Group, California Air Resources Board, California Energy Commission, CalEPA, Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Communities for a Better Environment, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, EcoInteractive Inc., GE Energy, Global Business Network, National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), Occidental College, Pacific Gas & Electric, Southern California Gas, Gas Technology Institute, South Coast Air Quality Management District, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will be presenting.
