Public Meeting to Discuss Climate Change Research
Thursday, October 26, 2006
Western Shasta Resource Conservation District
6270 Parallel Road
The community is invited to a kickoff meeting of the West Coast Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership (WESTCARB) on October 26 from 1-5 p.m.
WESTCARB, led by the California Energy Commission, is one of seven U.S. Department of Energy regional partnerships working to demonstrate ways to sequester carbon dioxide and reduce greenhouse gas emissions linked to global warming. Terrestrial (forestry and land use) sequestration options being investigated for Shasta County include conversion of marginal rangelands to forests (afforestation), improved management of hazardous fuels to reduce wildfires and their emissions, biomass energy, and forest management.
The meeting provides an overview of project opportunities; requirements for implementing, measuring and reporting projects; costs and benefits to landowners; environmental benefits, and related issues.
WESTCARB's partners include Winrock International and the Western Shasta Resource Conservation District.
